Sounds exciting. Except\u2026 it wasn\u2019t<strong>.\u00a0<\/strong><br><br>Digital audio was new, slow, clunky, and expensive. But the company soldiered on.\u00a0<br><br>In 2000, Audible pioneered the subscription model\u2014a flat monthly fee for access. But then came the dot-com bubble burst, causing financial strain with a $32.3 million loss.\u00a0<br><br>Startups were crashing everywhere, and Audible was barely hanging on.
