Today, the domestic stock market has taken an interesting turn. Yesterday, while IT stocks dragged the market and restricted its upward movement to some extent, today, the same sector pushed the market upward. Apart from IT and media, the oil & gas sector also poured gains.

Nifty 50 hit fresh highs today for the third day in a row, nearing the 21000 mark. The index closed at 20937.70 today, gaining 0.40%.

The equity market was positive as the treasury yield fell yesterday in the West, and oil prices are stable. That said, not all stocks made it to the nifty gainers, and only 29 stocks out of 50 made it, while 21 stocks ended in red as nifty losers.

Let’s have a look at the top nifty gainers and losers today.

  1. Wipro: Today, three out of the top five nifty gainers are IT stocks, and the stock out of these five that gained the most is Wipro. It went up 3.94%, closing at 420.30 per share. The overall positive sentiment across the domestic market, especially in the IT sector, offered the main push for this stock to rise upward.
  2. LTIM: This IT stock gained 2.85% and closed at 5644, up from its previous close at 5487.65. While the overall rise of the IT sector due to a fall in treasury yields pushed the stock upward, it is also following the Press release, which states that the company has ranked 2nd in overall customer satisfaction by Whitelane Research.
  3. ITC: This FMCG stock gained following a rise in the sector and as petrol prices are declining. The stock gained 2.59% during today’s market session and closed at 463.45. The company’s subsequent investors meet schedule had also been announced yesterday.
  4. LT: As the overall market surged and election results were in the favour of the present government, most of the core sectors continue to gain today. Being an infra stock, LT gained 2.16% during today’s session.
  5. TCS: The IT stock gained 1.95% during the day following the upswing in the overall market and IT sector.

Wrapping up

Thus, today, the domestic market is mainly influenced by global cues such as a dip in treasury yields or oil prices rather than any big event in the nation itself.
